want to see what the the evaluations look like from a Recruit and Retain
seminar. This school has 90+ faculty members and the event was a 6+ hour

WORKSHOP with Kordell Norton, Synergy Solutions LLC
September 1, 2006
What did we do today that
helped? What insights will help you get better results and improve?
-
Focused on the positive; this is important.
Some of us need to hear it.
-
The group work was great keeping us busy kept us
involved.
-
Group activities were great. Also placing your
visuals around the group was good. I talk like this in my class – love the
personal stories & examples. I liked the poster idea. It shows what they are
getting out of PCTC.
-
Do more team building at the first of the year.
Having a combined lab of Jr. & Sr. this will help break the ice between them
better. Thanks for the websites.
-
Helped to keep us on track. Nice ideas on
recruitment.
-
Good principles and examples. I didn’t think
the 1st activity was useful/worthwhile. That go me off to a negative start,
but it was uphill from there. Good energy and patience with the group. This
is usually an antsy group!
-
Made us aware of things we don’t think of.
-
Touch 7 times method of recruitment. Age of
experience.
-
Gave good tips. Entertaining. You Can’s
Touch 7 times. Parent to parent.
-
The whole day was cool! Got me to look at the
way I recruit in different ways! The “You Can’s” is great!
-
A refreshing look at what we do in career center
education. Interesting perspectives on recruiting & retaining students.
Examples & links given. A good in-service. You did well.
-
Helped us see the change in language we need to
use to better market our programs. Changing our view on how our job is
viewed.
-
The poster on Benefits. You can….
Demonstration The concepts of focus on the student and help them “see” what
they ‘get’.
-
Motivated the staff to make them realize how to
motivate their students. We all have a better idea (skills). How to sell our
message. Insights – no matter what you teach or position you have, you need
to get people on your side through “You Can’s”. We so often have such a
passion for what we do, we forget others do not have that passion and our job
is to teach the passion through You Cans.
-
You Cans. Good ideas for thinking about &
marketing my program. Story telling good idea.
-
Helpful tips for selling our school! How to get
people involved!
-
The program gave me new ways to think about
recruiting. I thought the idea of You Cans was most helpful.
-
I liked learning about “you cans”. Also, the
www.salary.com site sounds great.
-
Very motivating and it made me thin about my job
in a different way. I got a better insight on ways to motivate students to
become the sellers of my program.
-
Loved today. The mix of activities was great.
Information was beneficial. Especially liked the recruiting portion of the
presentation.
-
Taught me how to market myself for a better job.
-
Focused on positives of retain and recruit.
Focus on methods,
-
Ideas presented in very concise and easy to
understand and implement. U cans, start class with stories, have students
sell your program.
-
I like the “you cans”. I need to get more
Emotional in my delivery.
-
7 touches very good.
-
More and better ways to recruit. “stories” good
salesmanship, branding, features/you cans.
-
I loved “you cans”. Loved bridge building,
loved your stories. Folder creations. You are the BEST all day speaker I
have sat through.
-
We were involved and active. We were given
positive techniques to sell ourselves and our program. We were treated with
respect and allowed to be a part of the learning. We shared ideas. We didn’t
just sit and have someone read an overhead.
-
Focus on importance of first two weeks. Fun
activities, establish their likes and dislikes.
-
Teamwork exercises that didn’t put anyone “on
the spot”. Gained insights into human nature that will help me rethink
approaches to teaching. Felt ‘validated’ in some things I already do, so can
work from my strengths.
-
Websites for reference. Hands-on. Stories.
Speaking to emotions.
-
Put more fun & experiences in my teaching. Tell
more stories to keep students in my program. Learned a great team building
idea for my PRESS group.
-
You cans. Fishing expedition. First steps
training. We are an experience economy. I am formulating a new approach to
sophomore visitations day having present students teach competencies to class
& prospective students.
-
Remember teamwork stages. CASE DRASTIC websites
-
The high energy of presentation helped
“energize” me.
-
The “T” charts Features & U cans. More unity
and input (after the inservice) with our peers and administration. Ideas and
plans and directions on how to & what to do. Sharing best practices.
-
Team building and essential components of
teams. Reviewing who the customer is and what they want. Linking emotions to
“you can” performance.
-
You cans. Making one think of the positives
about their positions and programs. Helping with the recruiting process.
Good hands on activities!!
-
The bridge builder. The You Cans. Laughter w/o
threat of ridicule encourages engagement. Emphasize/personalize the plusses.
-
One of the best all-day in-services we’ve had
here in my 13 years.
-
Telling the student that they can do something
is more effective than telling them what the school will do for them.
-
The practical applications of my discipline.
Revisit my students’ frustrations.
-
Made me a believer in using student to promote
my robotics program. How to get the student involved.
-
Today’s inservice helped to show everyone how to
recruit to our school which is a school of choice. It also showed/emphasized
on how everyone can be used to recruit.
-
Good ideas that showed teamwork and creative
thinking. Try website. ENJOYED!
-
Thanks to you my Geometry students know that
they can… Can’t wait to display it in my room!!
-
I thought the story journal was a great idea - I
might use in class! The ‘you can’ for marketing is great. I know I need to
show kids the benefits of English at a Tech school.
-
The “you Cans” were really good. Keep the focus
on them and the benefits they will get.
-
Hands-on Teambuilding (bridge). Learned about
“You Cans”. Like the “tell a story” idea.
-
Loved it! Good ideas for teambuilding and
selling your program.
-
Helped to give me a better perspective on
things. I liked the Bridge project a lot.
What do you wish you had gotten
more information on? Do you have any thoughts for Kordell?
-
Good job. It is tough to keep the attention of
this crowd.
-
List of team-building suggestions. Excellent
job – kept us interested – taught us something.
-
More info about Kordell and his background.
-
Liked that several topics were covered.
-
Less time. Got lengthy.
-
More info on getting the students to help with
selling the Robotics program. Do some Red Skelton skits.
-
Everything was good.
-
Information presented today in written form –
Handouts at the end would be helpful. (fishing example, touch points)
-
Nice job
-
Would like handouts. There seemed to be a lot
of wonderful information that I fear I may have missed some in my notes. More
website addresses.
-
I work with one to two students at a time. Most
of what you did was easily adapted to small class size.
-
We don’t pick our students, guidance does, it is
hard to retain students if you only have sophomore orientation to sell your
program.
-
We need to have input when new students are
chosen.
-
Maybe a bit more attention to academics.
-
Excellent presentation.
-
More time to make some specific plans for
recruitment and/or classroom plans. Nice music. Great stories. Good humor.
-
Overall, macro design ideas for Pioneer
recruiting. How we can present Pioneer as an entity.
-
Good presentation.
-
I would like more time to work at putting this
information into my class.
-
Great job – tons of simple but valuable ideas.
-
More details on “You Cans” – more examples –
more tools.
-
Outstanding, funny, and informative.
-
Kordell is a wonderful presenter. Love the
humor/quirks.
-
Great job! One of the best presentations we
have had.
-
You did a good job of keeping the program
moving. The humor and the activities made it enjoyable.
-
I’m old – the memory needs help, need more of
all of it.
-
It was pretty thorough and very entertaining.
-
A resource list or packet, possible CASE’s.
-
Refresher course at beginning of school (before
school starts) right before Sophomore visitation. E-mail short, quick tips
for teachers.
-
How to invoke emotion? Great stories, but too
many, too quick. More meat & potatoes.
-
Did a good job – humorous.
-
Divide up into interest areas: career-tech
teachers, academic teachers, non-teaching staff and give specific suggestions
to each group (short time) during the day.
